MOTION PICTURE AND TV COMMISSION

APPOINTS NEW DIRECTOR

 

Steven Gorelick has just been promoted to Executive Director of the New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission by the Commission Board, according to Chairman Michael Proscia.

 

Gorelick, who has been with the agency since 1980, has served in the capacity of Associate Director since 1991. He succeeds Joseph Friedman, who was appointed to the position by founding Chairman Sidney Kingsley in 1978, and served as the first Executive Director in the Commission’s history. Friedman retired on August 1^st, and was honored as Executive Director Emeritus by the Commission Board at a recent meeting.

 

The Commission, which has a staff of four, promotes film and television production in the state and assists filmmakers in the scouting and securing of locations and services. Last year, the agency attracted over 945 productions to New Jersey, including 95 feature films.

 

Since its inception in 1977, the Commission has assisted on over 14,400 projects, enriching the local economy by more than $1.2 billion.

 

A raft of motion pictures have been shot in New Jersey since January alone, including “Lymelife” with Alec Baldwin, Darren Aronofsky’s “The Wrestler” starring Mickey Rourke, “Cadillac Records” featuring Adrien Brody and Beyonce Knowles, “The Perfect Age Of Rock n’ Roll” with Kevin Zegers, Lauren Holly and Peter Fonda, “Transformers 2” starring Shia LaBeouf and “The Greatest” featuring Pierce Brosnan and Susan Sarandon. Among the television series currently being made in state are NBC’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” and the revived PBS children’s show “The Electric Company.”
